The night calls for action
The night seems quiet, but it’s never truly silent. While the industrial parks in the Drechtsteden lie in darkness, one thing remains certain: our security guards’ eyes are wide open.
In the first part of this series, we followed Rachid during his opening round, in which he safely prepares locations for a new workday. In the second part, the fire and lock-up round , the moment when calm returns and vigilance is at its highest. Now, in this third and final part, we turn to that quiet hour when every signal counts: the alarm response.
It is a quarter past two in the morning when the screen on Rachid’s device lights up. A notification appears: “Alarm, Zwijndrecht warehouse, zone four, glass break detection activated.” Within seconds, the quiet drive turns into a targeted operation. While the city sleeps, he switches into a mode where every second counts.

The alarm goes off
An alert sounds in our control room. The system has detected broken glass at a warehouse in Zwijndrecht. The dispatcher immediately checks the camera footage but sees nothing unusual. No movement, no heat anomaly, and no visible signs of damage. The alert could be a false alarm, but it could also indicate that something happened outside the camera’s field of view.
To be sure, the alert is forwarded to Rachid, who is a few kilometers away. The alert appears on his device, including the location, time, and the specific zones where the sensors were triggered. He acknowledges receipt and immediately heads to the address.
While he’s on his way, he stays in contact with the dispatch center. There, they continue to monitor the situation in case anything changes on the cameras. At this stage, it’s all about verification. First, determine exactly what’s going on, then decide what action to take next. Only when Rachid finds evidence on site that points to an actual break-in does our dispatch center call in the police.
Remote collaboration: the power of communication
While Rachid is on his way to Zwijndrecht, the dispatch center continues to monitor the situation closely. The cameras still show nothing. No people, no vehicle, no change in the image. Nevertheless, the report remains a serious matter. No one is ruling out a technical malfunction, but certainty can only be established by checking the scene.
In the car, Rachid checks his route and the location data coming in on his device. The key safe in his car contains the access keys and alarm codes for the property. Everything is logged and secured, ensuring that only authorized security guards have access to the safe. Once he arrives on site, he can safely enter the premises without relying on third parties.
Meanwhile, the dispatch center stays in contact. The dispatcher tracks Rachid’s location via GPS and keeps the camera feed open, ready to intervene if anything changes. This collaboration between the dispatch center and the surveillance officer is the backbone of our mobile surveillance. One sees what the other cannot, and together they form a single team.
A proactive approach, always one step ahead
At SERIS, we always remain vigilant, even between alerts. When we notice multiple alarms at the same location within a short period of time, we take it a step further. Instead of simply responding, we investigate whether there is an underlying issue. For example, could it be a technical malfunction, a miscalibrated sensor, or a harmless disturbance, such as a spider triggering false alarms?
This proactive approach prevents recurring issues and makes us a valuable partner for our clients. We reach out to verify the issue, recommend improvements, and involve our technical support team when necessary. In this way, we ensure that the system continues to operate optimally and that long-term safety is guaranteed, without unnecessary disruptions.
Arrival and assessment: look closely, act safely
Rachid drives onto the property and parks his car in a strategic spot, with a clear view of the building and the exits. He leaves the engine idling and the lights dimmed. First, he looks around, listens, and observes.
The premises look quiet. No doors are open, there are no lights on inside the building, and there are no obvious signs of a break-in. Yet he notices something amiss: small pieces of glass near the side wall. He gets out of the car, surveys the area, and checks whether the glass is actually from a broken window or perhaps from old damage. He carefully walks around the building to conduct a security patrol.
Rachid approaches the warehouse door and checks the security lock. No signs of forced entry. He then conducts a visual inspection of the windows and doors. Everything appears intact. The broken glass turns out to be from a small ventilation grille that came loose due to wind vibration. No break-in, no threat, but damage that needs to be reported.
He informs the dispatch center that the situation is safe, records his findings, and reactivates the alert zone. For Rachid, this isn’t a false alarm, but a reminder of just how important diligence and coordination are.
Reporting and Follow-up Care
As soon as the site is completely safe again, Rachid begins his report. Using his device, he enters all the details step by step: time of the call, arrival time, observations, actions taken, and the final conclusion. He adds photos of the damaged ventilation grille and of the lock he inspected. Everything is forwarded in real time to the dispatch center, where the dispatcher verifies the information and supplements it with the system report for the call.
That very same night, the client receives a clear report in their inbox. No unnecessary details—just a factual summary of what happened and what was found. This way, the client knows exactly that the property is safe, where the damage is located, and what steps are needed to repair it.
For Rachid, this marks the end of the service call, but for SERIS, it’s a time for evaluation. Every service call—even a false alarm—provides valuable information. Our client’s technical department assesses the cause of the faulty ventilation grille so that similar issues can be prevented in the future. In this way, our service improves with every experience.
The silent force that keeps watch
With the call completed and the area declared safe, Rachid drives on into the night. It’s quiet outside, but his work never is. Every trip, every call, and every check contributes to something bigger: the confidence that clients can sleep soundly at night.
This blog series began with the opening of a building early in the morning and ends here, late at night, when the lights have long since gone out. At every stage of the day, mobile surveillance plays a role in ensuring continuity, safety, and peace of mind.
At SERIS, it’s all about attention, collaboration, and expertise. It’s not about what’s visible, but about what doesn’t happen precisely because everything is properly managed. That is the quiet power of mobile surveillance.
