Our people make the difference
You’ve been happily working for the same client on behalf of SERIS for years. Then something changes. A new tender, a new contract, a different name on the building. Unfortunately, you have to part ways with the client, but you remain employed by SERIS. Not because you have to, but because you feel at home with your employer. This isn’t a coincidence, but the result of sustainable employment practices. At SERIS, one thing is clear: our people make the difference.
People-centered employment practices: the power of connection
At SERIS, people come first. Our planners and managers know our security guards personally, are aware of what’s going on, and offer support when things get tough. We firmly believe that employees can only truly thrive when they feel seen and valued. This is evident in our daily work: When we recently lost a major client following a bidding process, the entire team chose to stay with SERIS. They started working for another SERIS client because they feel connected to our organization, our culture, and our values. We’re proud of that. This way, we retain not only expertise but also the unique SERIS mindset.
Conversely, when we win a contract, we actively seek to retain the employees of the outgoing supplier. We do this not only because they are already familiar with the work and the location, but also because it aligns with our vision of sustainability: avoiding the waste of talent and instead investing in people and continuity.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement for Private Security provides clear guidelines for this: for contract transfers of fewer than 15,000 hours per year (Article 19), transfer is not mandatory, but we often make a conscious decision to offer these individuals a position anyway. For contract renewals exceeding 15,000 hours per year (Article 20), transfer is mandatory, ensuring that knowledge and experience are retained and the transition proceeds smoothly for both the client and the employee. As holders of the Security Quality Mark, we always adhere to these provisions. In this way, we turn every contract renewal into an opportunity to strengthen our connection and retain talent.
Thinking in terms of possibilities and the human dimension
Everyone is unique. We don’t just look at the job; we focus on the person behind it. Take our work schedules, for example: they aren’t standard templates, but are tailored in consultation with the employee. Do you have young children, caregiving responsibilities, or would you like to exercise at set times? We work with you to find solutions that fit your life. This creates room for a work-life balance, which not only makes you a better security guard but also leaves you with more energy for home.
SERIS’s wellness program is a great example of this. Employees receive a discount on a gym membership, are encouraged to bike to work, and get tips for a healthy lifestyle. Not because they have to, but because we want everyone to feel fit and energetic both at work and in their personal lives. And those who travel by public transit receive a SERIS public transit chip card. This makes it easier to commute to work in a sustainable and stress-free way.
The SDGs as a guide: sustainability on all fronts
At SERIS, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a guiding principle for everything we do. Our compass? The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 17 global goals to combat poverty, reduce inequality, and tackle climate change. We focus primarily on those SDGs that directly impact the daily lives of our employees.
SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
This goal is all about fair work, equal opportunities, and sustainable economic growth. For SERIS, that means more than just a competitive salary. It’s about security: if you work for us, you have a job guarantee. If a client changes? We’ll do everything we can to keep you on and place you at another location. That way, you don’t have to worry about your future: you’re part of the SERIS family.
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production & SDG 13 – Climate Action
These goals focus on reducing waste, using resources responsibly, and combating climate change. How does this translate at SERIS? You wear circular workwear, work in a paperless organization, and invest in electric vehicles. Small steps? Perhaps. But together, we’re reducing our ecological footprint and building a cleaner world.
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
Collaboration is crucial to achieving sustainable change. That is why SERIS actively partners with schools, municipalities, and civil society organizations. For you as an employee, this means more than just a job: it offers opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to society. Whether you’re doing an internship, starting out as a security guard trainee, or have been in the field for years, your development is our priority.
HR Policy: From Recruitment to Development
The journey at SERIS begins with a careful selection process. We look for people who are not only skilled in their field but also fit into our culture of respect, commitment, and collaboration. New colleagues receive a warm welcome and a comprehensive onboarding program, so they quickly feel at home.
Training and development are not just empty promises. Every year, you receive a personal training budget that allows you to choose which training programs or courses you want to take. You can work on your personal growth, whether you want to improve your communication skills, learn more about safety, or are simply curious about something new. We also offer internships and apprenticeships, so that young talent has the opportunity to learn the trade and experienced professionals can share their knowledge. For employees, this means: you never stand still. You’re given the space to grow, take new steps, and develop yourself—both within and beyond your role.
Work Schedules: Focus on the Individual
At SERIS, our schedules are tailored to your needs. We take your preferences, your home situation, and your career goals into account. Do you live close to a location? Then we’ll try to schedule you there, so you spend less time commuting and have more time for yourself. Do you need fixed days off, or would you prefer to work night shifts? We listen and work with you to find the best solution. This personalized approach ensures that our employees feel heard and valued. The result? Greater job satisfaction, less stress, and lower absenteeism. And our clients notice this too: satisfied employees deliver better quality and ensure continuity on the job site.
Added value for employees and clients
At SERIS, sustainable employment is all about mutuality. For employees, this means job security, opportunities for growth, and a healthy work-life balance. You know that your employer supports you, invests in your future, and cares about your well-being. You’re not just a number—you’re a valued member of the team.
For clients, this means a stable, dedicated, and well-trained team committed to safety and quality. Lower turnover, greater continuity, and a partner that actively contributes to social causes. This creates a win-win situation in which everyone benefits from responsible employment practices.
Sustainable collaboration: the future starts today
At SERIS, sustainable employment isn’t a destination—it’s a journey we take together every day. Whether you’re a security guard, receptionist, mobile patrol officer, planner, intern, or manager, your dedication and commitment make all the difference. Together, we’re building an organization that puts people first, offers opportunities for growth, and embodies sustainability in everything we do. Would you like to work for an employer that invests in your future? Or, as a client, are you looking for a partner that looks beyond today? At SERIS, we believe that the future starts with people. And we’re building that future together.
